The Green Ark, Belgium's winning concept for the 2020 World Expo in Dubai, will function as both an exhibit of biophilic architecture and an illustration of the country's green future. French ecological architect Vincent Callebaut has won a competition to redesign ancient thermal baths in the Savoyard town of Aix-les-Bains, France. Dubbed "Ecume des Ondes" (Foam of Waves), Callebaut's proposal features a many-storied, heavily foliaged structure with waveform green terraces. Belgium-based Vincent Callebaut Architectures (VCA) has revealed renderings of the firm’s winning proposal to transform the Luxembourg's Hôtel des Postes into an expansive mixed-use building complex. The 11,000sq m (118,400sq ft) project, dubbed "A Jewel Nestled in a Stone Vessel' will see the early 20th-century structure gain a 35.5m (116ft) crystal atrium, as well as a renovated inner courtyard, restaurant, brewery, permaculture sky garden and orchard, and rooftop terraces. Belgian architect Vincent Callebaut has unveiled his vision for a future where the citizens of the world live underwater in vast self-sufficient ‘oceanscrapers’ made from recycled waste. The futuristic concept – named Aequorea after a bioluminescent jellyfish capable of emitting light – imagines communities living in twisting 250-floor structures that drop to depths of 1,000m (3,300ft).
