Four Seasons to re-imagine Costa Rican spa resort for new audience
Four Seasons Resorts and Hotels will undertake a US$35m (€31m, £27m) “re-imagination” of its Costa Rican resort and spa this year.
The Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo will be redesigned in order to cater for a new target audience – identified by the resort operator as millennial-type “active families and couples, nature enthusiasts and bold adventure seekers”.
Four Seasons operates the property on behalf of Miami-based Gencom, a leading international luxury hospitality and residential real estate investment and development firm.
Expected to take four months, the work will begin in August 2017 and will be completed in time for the new year.
Led by New York-based designers Meyer Davis Studio, the work will include the transformation of all 181 guest rooms, suites and villas into “soothing retreats”, as well as the introduction of new restaurants.
The spa and wellness facilities will also be overhauled. An enhanced signature, outdoor pool area will be added, alongside new luxury cabanas, amenities and wellness programming.
Supporting the wellness facilities will be a new collection of guest activities and experiences – rooted to what Four Seasons describes as “a deep connection to self and nature”.
The resort’s spa, which features 18 treatment rooms, will also receive a facelift.
According to Four Seasons, the re-designed resort will open in December 2017 and will signal the start of a larger, US$100m major transformation of the 1,400-acre (570 hectare) Peninsula Papagayo.
“Guided by new ownership led by Gencom, the ambitious destination transformation will connect and celebrate the sprawling Peninsula from end to end for the first time,” a statement said.
“In addition to the resort renovation, the first US$100m (€88m, £77m) phase will include all-new Peninsula amenities, immersive adventure and cultural experiences and a peninsula-wide network of more than eight miles of nature trails designed to integrate man and nature and help preserve one of the most extraordinary biological corridors on the planet.”
