10m euro revamp for exclusive Eden Rock resort
Eden Rock, the Relais & Chateaux Resort on the island of St Barthélemy in the French West Indies, is to open a new 1,500sq ft suite on 15 December, the final stage of a nine-month refurbishment project.
The property’s English owner, David Matthews, has spent 10m euros ($13.4m, £6.9m) creating the new suite, updating the resort’s two restaurants and a further suite and adding two bars, an art gallery and a shop.
The new suite is called the Howard Hughes Loft – named after the American aviator, businessman and Hollywood producer whose life is the subject of the current Hollywood film, The Aviator – and offers view over the Baie de St Jean, while the existing Greta Garbo suite has been redesigned to reflect the classic Hollywood era.
The On-the-Rocks dinner restaurant and The Sand Bar lunch venue have both been redesigned and now give guests the opportunity to see the chefs at work in the kitchen. Both have also had new bars added.
Jane’s Gallery will display hand-picked works of art and will also give guests the opportunity to use their own painting skills to capture the views around the resort.
The new Rockshop will sell couture clothes and jewellery, which will also be on sale outside of St Barthélemy and the Caribbean as part of plans to broaden the Eden Rock brand. Details: www.edenrockhotel.com
