Work starts on multi-billion dollar Warner Bros theme park in Abu Dhabi, with AECOM and Thinkwell
Plans are back on track for a new Warner Bros theme park in Abu Dhabi, as the number of attractions in the Middle East continues to grow.
The multi-billion dollar deal was announced in 2007, but stalled during the global recession.
The scheme will include the creation of a 19-ride theme park and a hotel, along with multiplex cinemas, jointly owned by Warner Bros, Abu Dhabi-based property developer Aldar Properties PJSC and the Abu Dhabi Media Company.
The partnership between the three companies also includes a joint venture fund to finance films and publish video games, and to develop related ventures such as production facilities, digital content distribution and retail opportunities across the Gulf.
A Warner Bros spokesperson, confirmed the development, saying: “With our partners at Miral Asset Management, we have started initial development of the area on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island and expect the project to be completed in 2018.”
AECOM’s Middle East division are operating as consultants, while Thinkwell are acting as theme consultants. Louis Berger are project management consultants and Farah Leisure Parks Management are owner representatives and master developers for the project. Finally, NSCC International are operating as general contractors.
