Westin wows with debut of its first Queensland hotel
Westin Hotels, Marriott International's upscale brand, has opened its first resort in Brisbane, Queensland.
The new, 299-room Westin Brisbane – located in the city’s upscale, Mary Lane mixed-used development – features the city's only swim-up bar, as well as three restaurants, spa facilities, and a fitness studio.
As part of its wellness offerings, the hotel also engages a "run concierge", a staff member who can be recruited by guests to serve as a running partner.
Designed by architecture firm Woods Bagot, the AUD$200m (US$144m, €128m, £112m) structure is expected to be a boon for Queensland’s economy, and has already drawn praise from the Australian government.
Speaking on the opening, Queensland tourism industry development minister Kate Jones called the hotel "dream run" for the city and a "great shot in the arm" to boost the tourism in the region.
"It’s a ringing endorsement of Brisbane’s growing reputation as a world-class tourist destination", she commented.
She added: "It adds to our already impressive portfolio of hotels that are transforming the profile of Brisbane as a global hub for tourism and major events."
The hotel is the sixth new property to rise in Brisbane's inner city this year.
