Swire Hotels to launch The Temple House in Chengdu in May 2015
Operator Swire Hotels is set to unveil a 100-bedroom hotel and 42 adjoining serviced apartments in Chengdu, China, this May.
The project forms part of the city government’s conservation project to preserve the surrounding heritage buildings, which are integral to the success of a wider mixed-use development.
The Temple House will be located within the Chengdu Daci Temple Cultural and Commercial Complex, a joint venture to be developed by Sino-Ocean Land and Swire Properties. Designed by UK-based architects MakeArchitects, the hotel will be next to the thousand-year-old Daci Temple and set within a restored 100-year-old Chinese courtyard first built in the Qing Dynasty.
Spa details have yet to be announced, but The Temple House’s design will evoke modest houses that were provided for scholars who came from different parts of the world to study at the Temple, providing understated luxury experiences.
“The Temple House presents an ideal opportunity to extend our brand into one of China’s wealthiest and fastest-growing regions,” said Brian Williams, managing director of Swire Hotels.
Swire Hotels manages urban hotels in Hong Kong, mainland China, the US and the UK.
The Chengdu Daci Temple Cultural and Commercial Complex will measure 250,000sq m (2,710,000sq ft) and will comprise more than 100,000sq m (1,076,000sq ft) of open plan low-rise retail establishments, The Temple House and its apartments, plus a 47-storey office tower called Pinnacle One.
