Hotelier Eric Toren reveals Amsterdam hotel designed with 'unprecedented luxury'

Dutch hotelier Eric Toren and designers Wim van de Oudeweetering and Cris van Amsterdam are collaborating on a boutique hotel in Amsterdam they claim will offer a level of luxury that is “unprecedented in the Netherlands.”

Hotel TwentySeven has been created within the city’s early 20th century Royal Industrial Club building, located opposite the palace in Dam Square. It will open at the end of October.

The designers have created 16 soundproofed suites, ranging from 45sq m (484sq ft) to 219sq m (2,300sq ft) in size. The largest contains three bedrooms, three bathrooms, three Jacuzzis and a large private terrace. Each room will have handmade silk carpets, marble bathrooms and mosaic touch screens for personalised mood lighting and atmospheric settings.

Other design flourishes include a grandiose hand-blown glass light sculpture chandelier, plummeting four storeys from the skylight of the atrium through the centre of the hotel.

According to Toren, “every inch, every surface and every corner of the lavish interior of the hotel is ordained with the richest, finest and most surreal design and atmosphere.”

“TwentySeven is so much more than just a hotel,” he said. “We’re creating a dream environment. No expense has been spared. There are details that no other hotel has. The word is spreading quickly throughout Europe, and soon will spread around the world.”

The hotel will offer services including private butlers, personal assistants, personal shoppers and personal trainers.

Two star Michelin chef Pascal Jalhay is running the restaurant, and sommelier Lendl Mijnhijme is the hotel’s wine director.

Hotel TwentySeven is the latest in a series of hospitality projects opening in Amsterdam’s classic buildings. A W Hotel recently opened in the city’s oldest bank building, designer Jacu Strauss has converted 25 interlinked canal house buildings into the Pulitzer Amsterdam Hotel,

and Studio Proof recently revamped Amsterdam’s famous Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky to evoke the atmosphere and stylistic flourishes of the 1920s.
